Comparison of Two Deadlock Prevention Methods for Different-size Flexible Manufacturing Systems

چکیده
The competition for limited resources can produce deadlocks in flexible manufacturing systems (FMS). Petri nets are an effective way to model, analyze, and control deadlocks in FMS. Our previous work proposes elementary siphons as an important concept in investigating the deadlock problems in Petri nets. This paper presents an elementary siphon-based deadlock prevention method. It then performs the analysis of this new policy and a well-established deadlock prevention policy based on strict minimal siphons. Both methods are used to solve the deadlock control problems for a number of FMS with different scales. This paper concludes that the new policy can always lead to structurally simple liveness-enforcing net supervisors than the other method.

Deadlock prevention and deadlock avoidance in flexible manufacturing systems using Petri net models
Deadlocks constitute an important issue to he addressed in the design and operation of flexible manufacturing systems (FMS’s). In this paper, we show that prevention and avoidance of FMS deadlocks can he implemented using Petri net models. For deadlock prevention, we use the reachability graph of a Petri net model of the given FMS, whereas for deadlock avoidance, we propose a Petri net-based on...

متن کاملMonte Carlo Simulation to Compare Markovian and Neural Network Models for Reliability Assessment in Multiple AGV Manufacturing System
We compare two approaches for a Markovian model in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) using Monte Carlo simulation. The model which is a development of Fazlollahtabar and Saidi-Mehrabad (2013), considers two features of automated flexible manufacturing systems equipped with automated guided vehicle (AGV) namely, the reliability of machines and the reliability of AGVs in a multiple AGV jobsho...
متن کاملA Deadlock Prevention Policy for Flexible Manufacturing Systems Using Siphons
In this paper, we present a new deadlock prevention algorithm for the class Petri nets. A new class of net that is extended from SPR, called ESPR where deadlocks are related to unmarked siphons. This method is an iterative approach by adding two kinds of control places called ordinary control place and weighted control place to the original model to prevent siphons from being unmarked. We have ...
متن کاملOn systematic methods to remove redundant monitors from liveness-enforcing net supervisors
Petri nets based deadlock prevention for flexible manufacturing systems has received much attention over the past decade, primarily due to the seminal work of Ezpeleta et al. in 1995. A Petri net based deadlock prevention mechanism is usually implemented by adding monitors or control places to a plant Petri net model such that liveness can be enforced. The significance of this methodology lies ...
